Our commitment to sustainability
We are committed to making Velo as sustainable as possible. We're taking the first small steps on this journey with our new recyclable can and we're working towards becoming carbon neutral
Making Velo recyclable
All of our cans are now recyclable.
Most Kerbside recycling facilities accept the type of plastic used in our cans and where they don't, there may be alternative collection and recycling points, such as supermarkets. Please check with your local facilities.
Common Questions
Why sustainability matters to VELO and why is it important to use recyclable materials?
We’re not just a company but a group of people who care about the planet. We know that we can make steps towards becoming more sustainable and with time make a real impact. We know a better future is not guaranteed, so creating a recyclable can is our first step to making our world greener.
Has the flex lid been removed?
Yes, the flex lid has been removed on the new cans. This is to ensure that the VELO can is only made using one type of plastic and is therefore recyclable.
Do you need to remove the labels if you want to recycle the can?
No, you don’t need to remove the labels in order to recycle the cans.
What is VELO doing about its carbon footprint?
We’re not just trying to reduce waste. We are working towards being carbon neutral – by reducing our energy use and CO2 emissions. As well as eliminating unnecessary single-use plastic so that all plastic packaging is recyclable by 2025.
Is the recyclable can the end of the sustainability journey?
Absolutely not. We are driving a step change in product sustainability and it is a journey. We are working towards becoming carbon neutral and are also exploring alternative packaging options and the make-up of the pouches themselves to make them more sustainable.
Can I recycle VELO pouches?
At present, no. We’re working on some new product developments but in the meantime, please empty your can first before recycling.
How can I recycle VELO cans?
The container is made from Polypropylene, which is widely accepted by most kerbside recycling facilities in the UK. Where they don’t, there may be alternative collection and recycling points, such as in supermarkets. Please check with your local facilities
Why are only new cans recyclable?
Our new cans are made with a single polymer – Meaning it’s a single type of plastic (PP) that can be recycled. Previously, our cans were made with a combination of two plastics, which could not be recycled.
Can I recycle VELO cans?
For now, some cans still aren’t recyclable - Not because we don’t want to, but simply because of stock. So, make sure to check for the VELO recycling icon. 'Empty can and Recycle', if it’s there, empty the can, recycle it, and carry on with your adventure.
What is VELOSOPHY?
VELOSOPHY is our commitment to becoming more sustainable. Our way of thinking. We’ve started small with our new recyclable cans, but they’re only the beginning. From carbon neutrality to more energy efficient production, going green is our next big adventure.
